Curriculum

6 modules โ€” from culture to Kubernetes

The core of the course โ€” deep hands-on work with Docker, CI/CD, and Kubernetes.

  • SDLC, Waterfall vs Agile, the wall-of-confusion between Dev and Ops
  • Intensive Linux review โ€” bash, systemd, SSH
  • Git in depth โ€” branching/merging/rebasing, PR/MR workflow, Git Flow vs trunk-based development
  • Developer environment โ€” VS Code, remote SSH, Markdown documentation
  • Image vs container, Docker Engine, registries (Docker Hub, GitLab Registry)
  • Writing a Dockerfile: layers, multi-stage builds, image size optimization
  • Networking and volumes, Docker Compose (web + DB + cache)
  • Container security: non-root users, Trivy image scanning
  • CI/CD concepts, pipeline anatomy (build โ†’ test โ†’ deploy)
  • GitHub Actions โ€” workflows, jobs, steps, runners
  • GitLab CI โ€” .gitlab-ci.yml, stages, artifacts, setting up your own runner
  • Deployment strategies: rolling update, blue-green, canary, rollback
  • Mini-project: commit โ†’ test โ†’ build โ†’ automatic deploy to a server
  • Ansible in depth: roles, vault, inventory, handlers, Jinja2 templates
  • Terraform basics: providers, resources, state, plan/apply/destroy
  • Terraform in practice: creating a VM/network/storage in the cloud via code
  • IaC + CI/CD, intro to GitOps
  • Architecture: control plane, worker nodes, kubectl
  • Spinning up a cluster: k3s/minikube, intro to EKS/AKS
  • Pod, ReplicaSet, Deployment, Service and Ingress (nginx)
  • ConfigMap/Secret, PersistentVolume/StatefulSet, Helm
  • RBAC and security, GitOps (intro to ArgoCD)
  • Prometheus โ€” metrics, exporters, PromQL basics
  • Grafana and Alertmanager, Telegram notifications
  • Centralized logging: Loki + Promtail
  • AWS basics (IAM, EC2, VPC, S3), Kubernetes in the cloud (EKS)
  • SRE concepts: SLA/SLO/SLI, post-mortem culture

Required infrastructure

A VM (4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM) per student, or a shared Proxmox server; k3s clusters; GitLab (self-hosted or gitlab.com); AWS free-tier accounts.

๐ŸŽ“ Final project

A complete DevOps pipeline

Deploy a microservice web app (frontend + backend + DB) on GitLab/GitHub; provision infrastructure with Terraform; configure it with Ansible; a CI/CD pipeline: commit โ†’ test โ†’ Docker build โ†’ registry โ†’ automated deploy to Kubernetes (rolling update); Prometheus + Grafana monitoring and alerting; a documented README and architecture diagram.
